Upon my move from San Francisco to Birmingham and through the marvels of serendipity, I had the great honor of collaborating with James Beard award-winning chef, Frank Stitt, on his first cookbook, Frank Stitt's Southern Table - Recipes and Gracious Traditions from Highlands Bar and Grill. We met several times a week over coffee during off hours in the empty dining room at Highlands. With tape recorder in hand, I captured Frank's musings about his travels, food, interactions with purveyors, and his staff. I then returned to my office to craft the essays and headnotes that weave together his masterful recipes. Other collaborators included, food photographer extraordinaire, Christopher Hirsheimer, and novelist Pat Conroy. Yes, this is what is called "a career highlight!"
