Eleanor Burke - New Orleans' Architectural Historian

Executive Traveler (July 2006)

A few short months after Hurricane Katrina flooded New Orleans, Executive Traveler magazine sent me to the Crescent City. It was perhaps the most eye-opening, moving assignment I've ever had the good grace to land. Once there, I interviewed many city natives--from passersby on the street, to high-powered businessmen and star chefs--all of whom had decided that staying on in New Orleans was the only option on the table. Here, architectural historian, Eleanor Burke, of the Historic Districts Landmark Commission takes me on a tour of her ravaged neighborhood, Faubourg St. John, and shares the silver lining she sees in the aftermath of the destruction.
