Born on the bayou and raised on the prairie by parents who loved to duel it out in the kitchen, food has played a central role in my life from the start. I could peel a shrimp before I could talk and made my own after-school snacks from scratch using recipes from mom’s Helen Corbitt and Julia Child cookbooks.

In my college dorm room in Texas, I mastered the art of homemade salsa and guac on top of a mini fridge while trying to remain focused on international studies and art. Upon graduation, I became a special events planner for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, a job that involved long hours and attention to detail made worth it by regular tastings offered up by the Capitol City’s finest caterers.

When an itch to travel was impossible to resist, I moved to France to work the grape harvest in Bordeaux at Domaine de Chevalier, took a stint as a nanny in Aix-en-Provence, then survived on crêpes and nutella-slathered baguettes in Paris until the money ran out.

Back in the States, I landed a job at National Geographic, as Editorial Assistant to five editors. That seminal experience cemented my desire to pursue a career in publishing and set a high bar for every job thereafter. I left DC for the West Coast to combine my passion for food with my love of words. In San Francisco, I attended culinary school at Tante Marie’s Cooking School while working for Weldon Owen, a packager of cookbooks for the Williams-Sonoma brand.

For twenty years I have produced content for magazines such as Cooking Light, Cottage Living, Southern Accents, and Southern Living, served as Consulting Editor for Tastebook.com, and Managing Editor of Cooking.com from conception through launch. Book projects are my passion and I’ve produced titles for Warner Books, Time-Life, Oxmoor House, Williams-Sonoma, Running Press, Artisan, and Harper Collins. I was collaborating writer of Frank Stitt’s Southern Table – Recipes and Gracious Traditions from Highlands Bar and Grill and Frank Stitt’s Bottega Favorita – A Southern Chef’s Love Affair with Italian Food with the James Beard Award-winning chef, as well as The Hot & Hot Fish Club Cookbook with James Beard Award-winner and Iron Chef Chris Hastings. Most recently, I co-authored Around the table: Recipes and Inspiration for Gatherings Throughout the Year with country music icon, Martina McBride and developed the all-new recipes for the New York Times Bestseller, The Southerner’s Cookbook – Recipes, Wisdom, and Stories for Garden & Gun magazine. In addition to freelance consulting, I currently serve as Executive Editor for Oxmoor House, an imprint of Time Inc. Books, developing titles for outside authors as well as Coastal Living and Southern Living magazines, including the New York Times Bestseller,  My Southern Journey by Rick Bragg and What Can I Bring? by TODAY show contributor Elizabeth Heiskell among many delicious books in the cooking and lifestyle categories.
